OUR STORY

Open your eyes for this incredible place

Welcome to Highway Gomantak – a family-owned, family-operated specialty Goan cuisine eatery in Mumbai. Founded by Shashikala and Ramesh Potnis in 1991, the simple, unassuming joint tops every esteemed list of Mumbai’s favourite seafood restaurants!

Discover The Culinary Legacy

  • A good spot to start is Highway Gomantak, a Goan specialist that’s been around for two decades. There are no napkins, air-conditioning or English spoken, but there is a focus on food. (As at all the other places below, pointing is a perfectly reasonable strategy: most of your fellow diners will be locals, and they’ll know the drill.) At Gomantak, the spicy stuffed pomfret, pan grilled, pairs well with a cooling Limca soda. The mori, or baby shark, is a more adventurous option that is both subtle but succulent. A meal for two will run you around 300 rupees, or about $6 at 49 rupees to the dollar.

  • “My salaam to the Potnis family. You can look forward to basic VFM fare. 32 varieties of thalis (Rs.85 to 180) and some wholesome sea food. Eight varieties of fish curries, masala stuffed pomfret, fried Goa mussels and shinane…. They serve it all. They have also added chicken pulao and fish platter.……..where bombil is not just a fish but an idea whose time has come.”

  • Highway Gomantak is a must visit for all foodies. Here you can discover the wonderful flavors of some delicious Goan/Karwari fish which are unknown to most Mumbaikars. It's a voyage of discovery! Another plus point is the warm and helpful nature of their staff.

Stuffed Pomfret

Lending itself to an array of preparations – curries, green masala, fried and stuffed – the pomfret is a hot-selling commodity. Our Stuffed Pomfret preparation is made with a traditional recipe, handed down over generations.

Mutton – Vada

While mutton masala and suke can be enjoyed with bhakri, chapati as well as solkadhi and rice – the popular combo of Mutton and Vade is an eternal favourite! The best cuts of mutton slow-cooked in a delicious concoction of freshly ground masalas.

Jawla Kismur

Dried prawn dishes help a Goan tide over a simple vegetarian meal too! This kismur is an exotic preparation of gently roasted jawla (tiny dried prawns), flavoured by a blend of spices, finely chopped onions, and a dash of lemon.

PRAWN SUKE

Prawn Suke - an authentic Gomantak recipe, honed to perfection by Shashikala Potnis! Definitely worth a try - this magical tangy-spicy preparation coats the prawns in a delicious blend of chillies, onions and coconut...
